This study Entitled: “Insecurity in Nigeria: A Study of Boko Haram, this paper is premise on the fact that Nigeria has been bedevilled by ethno-religiouss conflicts with devastating human and material losses since the return of democracy in 1999. But Boko Haram upspring of July 2009 was significant in that it not only set a precedent, but also reinforced the attempt by Islamic conservative elements at imposing a variant of Islamic religious ideology on a secular Nigerian state; the cause of which many believed are direct consequences of poverty, corruption, educational negligence and unemployment. These ills provided the impetus for the anger that breeds religious extremism and terrorism. This studyexamines Boko Haram insurgency and its implications for socio-economic and political development of Nigeria. The studyrecommended that to achieve a lasting solution to the security challenges thrown by the nefarious activities of Boko Haram sect, government must be proactive in dealing with security issues and modern methods adopted in information gathering. The government should accelerate the pace of development, and also a realistic social security programme provided. More fundamentally, government should adopt dialogue and negotiation in handling crisis.
