This study set out to examine some challenges of South-South as a minority political group in the Nigerian Federal system. Specially, the paper focuses on some political issues such as marginalization and deprivation, displacement of the traditional occupation of the people of the south-south region and environmental degradation as some of the challenges of the south-south minority group. In addition the study highlights the implications of the southsouth episode for Nigeria and also examines government interventionist policies in ameliorating the plight of the Niger Delta. Some practical recommendations such as increasing substantially the derivation beyond the 13% minimum given to oil producing states to between 40 and 50% and using competent consultants and contractors in executing approved projects in the Niger Delta region are proffered.
