Language and communication are twin concepts that cannot be treated in isolation of one another. They are fundamental concepts that give meaning and recognition to the existential status of a given society and its people. Language is the unique system with which a people communicate their worldview. A given nation owes its development- social, political, educational and so on, to Language and communication. This is because the two concepts serve as a bridge that brings both the nation and its citizens together for a strong relationship. The study examines the place of language and communication in national development. It reveals that Nigeria is a multilingual society and that the use of different languages has been of immense benefit to Nigerian society. It submits that inspite of the huge contribution made by Language and communication to national development, there are some challenges that might arise thereof. The study identifies and articulate measures that would bring enduring solution to these challenges.
