The microbial analysis on the incidence of Aspergillus species on fermented food (white and yellow garri) sold in Bukuru markets in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria was assessed within the period of June-August, 2015. A total of sixty (60) samples of garri made up of 30 white and 30 yellow were randomly collected in a sterile polythene bag, and were analyzed in microbiology laboratory of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, using spread plate method. The incidence rate of fungal for white garri was 73.3% (22 out of 30 samples) while that of yellow garri was 56.6% (17 out of 30 samples). Three Aspergillus species were isolated from both white and yellow garri samples with A. flavus (20%, 19.9%) A. niger (13.3%. 6.6%) and A. fumigatus (40% and 30%). A. fumigatus being the most frequently isolated in both samples while A. niger had the least occurrence. Comparatively white garri had higher frequency of fungal contamination than yellow garri. The consumption of contaminated garri with these organisms could result in food borne disease. It’s recommended that Garri processors to clean sanitize equipment and cover their products and stop other unhygienic handling of market food to avoid fungal contamination.
