Abstract
The reuse of waste is one of the ways of pollution control in an environment and dirt removal, there by provide a clean and healthy habitat, therefore this paper seek to study, the recycling of tomatoes waste as a potential nutrient for agricultural crops. The waste was treated in three different applications on soil with bean seed planted and, the soil analysis studied. The elemental analysis result before planting /flowering stage (control) shows macronutrients range between sodium:4.36±0.13mg/kg - 161.57±0.1mg/kg for calcium, and micronutrients range between iron:0.53±-.1mg/kg -7.45±0.13mg/kg for manganese with phosphorous:2.05±0.01mg/kg and nitrogen:4.6% while the treated soils were: NPK + sample in ratio 1:5, :macronutrients range between sodium:5.74±0.2mg/kg – 432.58±0.1mg/kg for calcium, the micronutrients range between iron:0.44±0.12mg/kg –30.12±0.1mg/kg for manganese, with phorphorous:14.50±0.02mg/kg and nitrogen:10.50% while, for the waste tomatoes sample: macronutrients range between sodium:8.32±0.15mg/kg – 216.03±0.1mg/kg for calcium, the micronutrients range between iron:0.77±0.1mg/kg – 8.56±0.1mg/kg for manganese and the phosphorous and nitrogen were 11.20±0.02mg/kg and 10.50% respectively, and that, soil + NPK shows a range value for macronutrients as: sodium:7.68±0.2mg/kg -118.27±0.2mg/kg for calcium, and micronutrient between iron:0.74±0.13mg/kg - 20.12±mg/kg and values: 12.20±0.02mg/kg and 12.10% are for phosphorous and nitrogen respectively. While cadmium, nickel, chromium and lead were not detected in all the applications. Sample with cow-dung also show a positive effect. In conclusion, the increase in the nutrients of all the treated soils affect the plants growth positively and it shows on the appearance of the plant and seeds produced. This indicated the need for utilization of tomatoes waste as
nutrient source for agricultural crops.
