Abstract
The study examines the relationship between Teacher competence and Pupils’ performance among NCE graduates from College of Education, Gumel, who are teaching in primary schools in Jigawa State, as well as the pupils they teach. It was conducted using causal comparative design. The data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20, for both descriptive and inferential statistics. The outcomes of the study revealed that teacher competence contributes up to 47.7% of the pupils’ performance. There is need for primary school teachers to have additional training skills in teaching competence in order to enhance pupils’ performance.
